Who sends these messages
Social Scene, LLC sends them, and nobody else. Our program is called Social Scene. We run tasting festivals and bar crawls in Chicago, and these texts are about our own events. We never message on behalf of another business, we are not a lead generation service, and we do not buy, sell or rent phone numbers.
How you join
There are 2 ways, and both require a separate, deliberate yes to texts.
1. The sign-up box on this website
Every page of besocialscene.com carries a sign-up box. It asks for your email and your city, and it has an optional mobile number field. Beside that field is a consent checkbox that starts unchecked. You have to tick it yourself. The box reads:
Yes, text me offers. Consent is not a condition of purchase.
A mobile number given without that box ticked is never stored as a consented number. You can subscribe by email alone and never receive a text.
2. Eventbrite checkout
When you buy a ticket to one of our events on Eventbrite, the checkout screen asks a separate question about text messages. It is its own question with its own answer, not a pre-ticked box and not bundled into the purchase. Answering it is optional and you can buy a ticket without agreeing. We record your answer alongside the order so we can show when and how permission was given.
That screen is inside Eventbrite's checkout and is not a public web page, which is why the wording of the question is reproduced here in full:

What we send, and how often
Event announcements, ticket offers and event day details for our own tasting festivals and bar crawls. A couple of messages a month, and more only in the few days around an event you bought a ticket to. Message and data rates may apply.
How to stop
Reply STOP to any message. It takes effect immediately and we send nothing further. STOPALL, UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END and QUIT all work the same way. You will get one confirmation that you are unsubscribed, and that is the last message.
Reply START to rejoin. Reply HELP or INFO for help, or email connect@besocialscene.com.
Who we share your number with
No mobile information will be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. All of the above categories exclude text messaging originator opt-in data and consent; this information will not be shared with any third parties.
We use a messaging provider to deliver texts on our behalf. They may only use your number to deliver our messages and for nothing else.
Age
Our events are 21+ and so is this program. We confirm your date of birth before you are enrolled in messaging.
Carriers
Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. Message delivery depends on your carrier and your handset.
